Swim, Sports & Play

The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.

Swim Lessons

Swimming is a lifelong skill. The YMCA has been America's leading swim instructor for more than 100 years. Our Y Swim Instructors focus on stroke technique, water safety and character development through our progressive swim lesson program. Sessions run in seven week segments. Sooner means safer when it comes to your child’s comfort in and around water. It’s never too early to learn skills they need for aquatic confidence, safety and survival. Our children’s group classes start at age 3.

Youth Sports

It’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you learn the game. At the Y, kids develop all of their skills, from catching and dribbling to teamwork and sportsmanship. Just as important, they learn first-hand the benefits of being healthy and active—and that virtual games just can’t compare to the real thing. Youth Sports teach sports skills to make it more fun and exciting for emerging athletes. Each program utilizes the Y’s seven principles: everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, family involvement, sports for all and sports for fun.

Health, Well-being & Fitness

Because we know that healthy lifestyles are achieved through nurturing spirit, mind and body, well-being and fitness at the Y includes more than just working out. We understand the benefits of exercising and socializing for members of all ages through one on one conversations with Y staff, personal training, group exercise classes and our adult sports programs. We also make staying active easier and fun for our active older adults as the young at heart enjoy activities such as fitness classes, field trips and volunteer activities.

Aqua Fitness

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, are looking to relieve arthritis pain, or just want to connect and have fun with your peers, these programs are a perfect place to start. Children, along with adults master self-defense, self-discipline, physical fitness and coordination through ancient martial arts. Participants will learn proper techniques of blocks, punches and kicks. Boys and girls starting at age 6 are welcome. Register for the class at the main Y, but classes are held at the College Avenue Y.

Country Line Dancing

Staying healthy can be fun! Learn the latest country western line dances and have a great time with Arlene Bewley! This is an interactive way of exercising. Register at the main Y, but classes are held at College Avenue Y.
